Get Mario Gomez....now
|
The German international is an absolute monster who would tear apart defences. He wants out of Turkey and he's bored of Italy, where he will return on a 12 month remaining contact to Fiorentina.
At 31, he's still good enough for a couple of years.
Whether we get Bacca or not, we should be pulling our pants down to lure this legend to the OS. I'm sure he'd love the Olympic challenge as the sun sets on his career.
Who agrees he'd be a great signing?

Even if the bacca deal had gone through I'd still want him - if we can get shit of sakho and Valencia and sign two decent strikers next season could be quality

Agreed. He may be getting on compared to some but quality is quality. If he can bring that experience to the younger players just think how quickly they could improve, just madness to ignore him! And bo***cks to Bacca! Tedious and is just a distraction from improving the squad.

Couldn't agree more. There are some on here that have been raping their wank socks at the thought of us spending 55 million pounds on a Columbian Bus Conductor and begging him to butt fuck us three weeks after he made it quite clear he'd rather go anywhere else.
The sad thing is that if Bacca signed and was rubbish we could have at least shouted 'I hate you, Butler' at him.

There really are some fucking mongs on this forum - thankfully they are in the minority on this debate.
Gomez is too slow, too old etc. Wtf?
Valenica is not even fit to wipe the shit off Gomez shoes. He's fucking ten times better than any out and out goalscorer we've got at this club. He'd be one of our most prestigious ever strikers.
He can do FUCKING EVERYTHING - head, score from both feet, shoot long or short through laces, set up others either through placed headers or deft passes from both feet, never misses a chance, great at free kicks, defends well at corners, tracks back, passes both short and long accurately, strong, reasonably quick.
There is a reason why he is a legend in Germany.

Well yes but my point is you can't pigeonhole every striker that reaches the age of 30 as past it

Jermain Defoe is 34, he relies on pace and is still banging them in

"31 is old in modern football, especially for strikers."
Probably depends on what attributes they most rely on. Those who rely on pace suffer most.
Those who play as a target man like Ibrahimovic & Niall Quinn were as good at 32/33 as they were in their 20s. Same goes for the more creative types like Sheringham & Di Canio.

I disagree. 31 is old in modern football, especially for strikers. Although there are some signs that finishing skills don't necessarily diminish, all other attributes which most strikers rely on will usually be in major decline by 31.

Colly I understand what you mean. But your talking about a very different class of player here. It's like saying ibra is a bad move for Man U. It's not like the french league is any better than the Turkish league.
At the end of the day the player that is mid twenties with a great goal scoring record in a good league and wants to come to West Ham just doesn't exist. So we should stop wasting our time pretending it does.
We are at the point that we can look at the better players in Europe who have issues (temperament, age, injuries etc..) but even the likes of lacazzette don't want to come here.
I would rather pay decent money to Gomez and see if we can bring the kids up to a good level.

Last time he played in a big league he was 1 in 4.
Payet was 28 when we signed him, Gomez is 31. I'm not looking for a sell on fee, I just don't want the club lumbered with a striker on a huge contract who I don't think will offer that much especially when he's 32/33.
